Once Public Sharing is enabled, users can choose to Share or Embed their Public Resources. The options will depend on the file type, ie whether the file is an image, video, document, etc. The Share function allows you to copy and share a link or share the link directly to Social Media channels.
For Image files you can also apply presets, allowing you to easily transform these files on the fly.
This article contains a full overview of the options available when using the Share option. Click on the items below to jump to specific sections.
Accessing Share Options
To load the Share page, go to the Resource you wish to Share. Providing the Resource is within a Public Folder (if not, you can enabled that follow the steps outlined here), go to the More actions icon and select Share / Embed Resource from the menu.
Note that if a resource is not supported for Embedding, the action will say Share Resource.
You can see an example of how to do this below:
Share / Embed Resource Overlay
Once you've selected the Share action, the Share / Embed Resource overlay will appear. This is where you can decide on the type of link to share, as well as applying any necessary presets. The options available will depend on the file type of your resource. These are outlined below
Share Type
This field provides options for what type of sharing options you can use. These include:
Internal Link
This is available for all field types and allows you to share an Internal link to other users of your platform (similar to the existing Email Link action). If they click on the link, they will be taken to that folder with the Resources highlighted at the top of the page. People without access to the platform will not be able to view this resource.
To copy the link, click the Copy Link button pictured below. This will automatically be copied to your clipboard so you can paste the link in an email, chat, etc.
Public Link
This option provides a Public URL that will allow anyone to view the Resource, regardless of their access to the Platform. For some file types, ie Documents, the link will be the only option available. Users simply need to Copy and then send / load the link in their browser to access the file.
For Video files, an additional field (pictured below) called Link Type will be available. This lets users select between Adaptive Streaming and Direct video links. Select Adaptive Streaming if you want the link to provide a streaming player with additional play options. The Direct option will use the browser default HTML5 player.
For Image files, the user will be able to choose a Share Source; with the options being either Original or Preset. Original will share the Original file, whilst Preset will share the file with the selected presets applied, for example the Original image flipped or cropped.
Social Media
If you select Social Media, you will be able to share the Resource directly to the selected Social Channel. Current options supported are Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and LinkedIn. Please note that these options will only appear if the file type selected is supported by that system. For example, most video files can only be shared to Facebook and Twitter via this platform.
Like with the Public Link option above, additional field options such as Presets for Image files, will be available when sharing to Social Media channels.
Once a user has decided on sharing either the Original or Preset version, they can select the Social Media option they wish to share. The social platform will then automatically open with the Post page.
Please note that the 'Resources' terminology referenced above may appear differently in your platform as these are customisable terms. You can view alternative options here.
