Social Media Risk Reviews: Scope & Limitations (FAQ)

Modified on Mon, 20 Jul at 7:29 PM

This article covers exactly what Social Media Risk Scanning does and doesn't cover: supported platforms, what content is scanned, and current limitations.

What platforms are currently supported?

LinkedIn (public posts), Facebook (public posts), Instagram (public posts), Google Ads (public ads, via the Google Ads Transparency Center), and Meta Ads (public ads, via the Meta Ad Library).

What content is scanned?

Public-facing posts and ads only: the post or ad copy, and any text embedded in the image. For Google Ads and Meta Ads specifically, call-to-action button text (e.g. "Shop Now," "Apply Now") is also reviewed as its own labelled item alongside the copy. Call-to-action buttons apply to ads only, organic posts on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn do not have them.

What isn't scanned?

Full profiles or account bios, comments on posts, direct messages, Facebook or Instagram Stories, Instagram Reels, and video content within ads or posts. For ads, the call-to-action button text is scanned, but the web page it links to is not.

Whose accounts can be scanned?

Only accounts you have oversight or control over: your own brand's owned accounts, subsidiaries or "Controlled Affiliates," and contracted promoters, influencers, or brand ambassadors. This service is for monitoring your own compliance footprint, it cannot be used to scan competitors or unrelated third-party accounts.

Is this a social listening or ad-intelligence tool?

No. This service is focused specifically on compliance risk detection ("Is our content compliant?"), not real-time reputation management, brand sentiment analysis, or general social listening ("What are people saying about us?"). It also does not report on ad performance, spend, impressions, or audience targeting, it reviews only the public creative your audience sees.

Can the service scan historical or deleted posts?

No, only currently live, public posts and ads. Deleted, archived, paused, or scheduled content cannot be retrieved or analyzed. For Meta Ads, this means an ad is scannable only while it is actively running in the Meta Ad Library. Available historical depth varies by platform, limited to content that is still publicly visible.

Are there any platform-specific limitations?

Instagram: public posts only, no access to Stories, Reels, or private accounts.
LinkedIn: public posts set to "Anyone" visibility only, cannot see "Connections Only" posts.
Facebook: public posts only, no access to private accounts, private groups, or Stories.
Google Ads: live ad previews via the Google Ads Transparency Center only, no access to paused or historical campaigns, and does not reveal campaign type (such as Performance Max, Search, or Display), targeting, or budget.
Meta Ads: live ads via the public Meta Ad Library only, covering ads shown across Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and Audience Network, in any country, with no video ad content scanned.

Why do I see the same Meta ad copy repeated several times in one ad?

For Meta's automated multi-image ad formats (such as Advantage+), the same ad copy and call-to-action can appear once for each image in a single ad. This reflects how Meta structures its own Ad Library data, not a duplication error, and does not indicate multiple separate risks. Treat repeated identical findings within the same multi-image Meta ad as one underlying issue. Genuine hand-built carousel ads, by contrast, can legitimately have different copy on each card, and those differences are reviewed individually because each card is a distinct piece of content.

What about video, audio, or GIFs?

The service currently scans static content only: the text of a post or ad (including call-to-action text on ads) and static images (including text within those images, via OCR). Video content, including video ads, is not scanned. Support for video, audio, and animated GIFs is coming soon.
