Presets allow a user to transform and create a common set of parameters that can be applied to an Image Resource. Global Presets are useful if there is a transformation that will need to be applied more than once, for example when sharing to a Social Media Channel and there are specific dimension requirements.
Using the Share / Embed, Single or Bulk Download overlays, users can create Global Presets that will be available to all users when Downloading Resources or Sharing / Embedding Images.
This article contains a full overview of the options available when using adding Presets. Click on the items below to jump to specific sections.
Note that the ability to restrict Groups and Users to different levels of permissions for Resource Transformations, specifically around Ad Hoc Transformations and Transformation Presets, is now available.
Click here to read more. Permission changes may impact some user's abilities to use the features as they are described in this article.

Presets List Page
This page will list all Global Presets within the platform, as well as any Single Presets relating to that resource. It will also feature information about the transformations that will be applied when a preset is selected for Share / Embed.
From this page (pictured below), you can perform a number of actions:
- To Filter and view a type of Preset (ie Single, Global or All) click the dropdown menu at the top left of the list.
- Search and Order how the filtered Presets appear in the list by using the Date or Search icons next to the Add button.
-
Add a New preset by clicking the Add New button at the top right of your screen
- Note that this will only be available for users who have permission to Add Presets.
- To Edit or Delete a Preset, click the Edit (pen) or Delete (bin) icons at the top right of the box for the relevant preset.
- To Preview a preset with the transformations applied; click the open in tab icon (next to Delete). This will open a preview in a new tab on your browser.
Add a New Preset
The Add New Preset page is where you can create your presets. Once Global Presets has been selected as the Preset Type, Users will be able to choose between Advanced and Basic Presets, with Basic being the default when you load the page. Advanced Presets allow you to apply additional transformation options. Fields from both, as well as the logic of how they are used, are listed below.
The presets created here are Global Presets and can be accessed by anyone (with permission) on the platform. Only users with Admin permission on Resources will be able to Add a Preset.
Basic Presets
The Basic options are split into specific sections, Preset, Properties and Dimensions. You can see the full view of options below.
Preset
In this section you can add a preset name and the type of preset that will be created.
Preset Type
This field is mandatory and will determine the other options that will appear below. Select Global to add a Preset that will be available on all Public Resources. If you select Single, the Preset will only be available for that specific Resource and alternate transformation options will appear. You can find out more about Single Presets here.
Preset Name
This field is mandatory and allows the user to add a custom name for the preset they're creating. The name has to be unique, ie it cannot already have been used for another preset.
Properties (Basic)
In Properties, you can choose the options which will affect the file format and quality of your image.
File Format
This will be the file format the image will be exported in. Depending on the options you choose, additional options may also be available. The options are JPEG, PNG, GIF and WEBP.
Compression Quality
This will reduce the file size but will also affect the quality of the image. The options will vary from Low (10%) - Maximum (100%), the original file. Note that this field will only appear if the file type is JPEG or WEBP.
Compression Type
The options here will depend on the file format selected. In general, the compression type can help to reduce the file size, but with various impacts on the quality. Note that this field will only appear if the file type is JPEG, GIF or PNG.
Dimensions (Basic)
The fields here will determine the size (width and height) of your image when shared or downloaded.
Image Dimensions
Here you can set the width and height of the image, either by choosing the Original, a percentage of the Original or a Custom Dimension.
Output Dimensions (w x h)
If you select Custom Dimension in Image Dimensions field, you will then be prompted to add in custom dimensions. These will be the dimensions (in pixels) that you need the image to be. For example, certain Social Media Channels have set requirements for the width or height of their banners. This setting can ensure your image will meet those requirements.
When filling out your Dimensions, you can choose to add in 1 value (e.g. width), or click the Crop icon so you can fill out both width and height. To switch between the two (ie fill out the height instead of the width), click the arrows to the left of the Crop icon.
You can see an example of this below.
Basic Presets with custom dimensions will fallback to some default rules based on how the original image is affected by the requested dimensions. You can see this behaviour below. To choose your own defaults, you will need to enable Advanced presets (see below).
- If a Larger Output (output is larger than original image): Keep the Original image dimensions and fill gaps.
- If a Smaller Output (output is smaller than original image): Always crop - ie detect the best size to match the output with cropping.
- If a Mixed Output (output has one side smaller and one side larger): Always crop - ie detect the best side to match the requested output with cropping.
Advanced Presets
Advanced Presets allow you to apply additional transformation options and choose the default behaviours that will apply to your preset. All of the options listed in Basic above are also available. The new options available in Advanced are listed within the sections below.
To enable Advanced Presets, go to the top right of your Add Presets page and click the Advanced toggle. Additional options will automatically appear below. This is demonstrated below.
Properties (Advanced)
Advanced Properties contain additional options for transforming your image. As you can see below, this includes Color Space, Flip and Rotate.
Color Space
This will change the color space of the image. The options available are Original (Default), RGB, CMYK and Greyscale.
If you wish to hide the Greyscale option so no users can select it in any scenario, please contact your Customer Success Manager.
Flip
This will Flip the image either horizontally or vertically depending on the option. If you are also cropping the image (ie entering custom dimensions), note that the Flip will apply first and then the image will be cropped.
Rotate
You can flip your image in 90 degree increments using the buttons available in this field. This will also update the output dimensions (if enabled).
Dimensions (Advanced)
Like in Basic Presets, you can set the Image Dimensions and choose to enter a custom Output Dimension if that option is selected. With Advanced presets though, you can choose the default behaviour for how the image will be treated based on the original image dimensions and the requested output.
Use Area of Interest for Crop
If cropping occurs and Use Area of Interest for Crop is enabled, the crop area will be centred on the area of interest in the image. This applies to Bulk Download and Sharing only.
You can enable Use Area of Interest for Crop on any Global Preset
Smaller Output Type
The option selected in the field below will apply when the Original images width and height are larger than the requested output. The default is to Always crop.
Larger Output Type
The option selected in the field below will apply when the Original images width and height are smaller than the requested output. The default is to Keep the original image dimensions and fill the gap (you can choose the fill type below). Note that you can also choose the Skip resizing entirely here.
Mixed Output Type
The option selected in the field below will apply when the Original images width and height are larger or smaller than the requested output. The default is to Always crop.
Fill Type
If your requested output leaves some additional background space clear, you can choose the Fill that will be applied. This can either be transparent, or a Solid Color. If the File Format selected does not support Transparency, then this will default to white.
Fill Color
If you select Solid Color in the field above, the Fill Color field will appear, allowing you to select which color will fill the background via the picker pictured below.
Area Position
This field determines where the image will be placed if it is smaller than the output or where the crop will occur if it is larger than the output. The options include Center (Default for Basic and Advanced presets), Right, Bottom Right, Bottom, Bottom Left, Left, Top Left, Top, Top Right.
Loading an Existing Preset
This dropdown menu above the fields listed above allows you to load an existing preset, useful if you have a similar set of conditions to be applied but a minor change is required.
Saving your Preset
To save your preset, click the Save Preset button at the bottom right of the Add Presets page. If any mandatory fields have been missed, error messages will appear on those fields.
If you don't wish to Add a Preset, you can click the Cancel button on the bottom left of the page.
To clear all options back to the Original settings, click the Revert icon at the top right of the page.
Editing your Preset
To Edit your Preset, click the Edit icon on the Presets List page. You will then see the preset load and be able to change the fields required.
Global Preset Invalidation
Please note that CDN invalidation on Global Presets will only be supported in March 2020. This means that in the meantime, if the image has been loaded via URL before it's been Edited, then any new transformations added on Edit will not be applied.
Additionally, if the preset is deleted, any asset that used that transformation will still load publicly.
To invalidate a Global Preset, disable public sharing under Admin > Settings or the parent folder of the file using the preset, and re-enable.
Adding a Preset Demonstration
You can see an example of how to Add a Preset below.
