Once Public Sharing is enabled, users can Share or Embed their Public Resources as Public CDN Links. The options available depend on the file type (image, video, document, and so on). The Share action lets you copy and share a Public CDN link, including to the most popular social media channels.
For image files you can also apply transformation presets, letting you transform files on the fly and optimize them for distribution.
Accessing Share / Embed Options
To open the Share page, go to the Resource you want to share. As long as it sits in a Public Folder (if it does not, enable that by following the steps here), open the More actions menu and select Share / Embed Resource.
If a resource does not support embedding, the action reads Share Resource instead.
Here is an example:
Share / Embed Options
After you select the Share action, the Share / Embed Resource overlay appears. This is where you choose the type of link to share and apply any transformation presets. The available options depend on your resource's file type, as outlined below.
Internal Link
Available for all file types. It shares an internal link with other users of your platform (similar to the Email Link action). When they click it, they are taken to the folder with the resource highlighted. People without platform access cannot view the resource.
To copy the link, click Copy Link. It is copied to your clipboard so you can paste it into an email, chat, and so on.
Public Link
Provides a public URL that lets anyone view the resource, regardless of platform access. For some file types, such as documents, this is the only option available. Copy the link and open it in a browser to access the file.
For video files, an extra Link Type field appears. Choose Adaptive Streaming for a streaming player with extra play options, or Direct to use the browser's native HTML5 player.
For image files, you may also choose a Share Source: Original (default) or Preset. Original shares the original file; Preset shares it with the selected preset transformations applied, for example flipped or cropped. Note the supported file size limit for presets and manual transformations.
Social Media
Select Social Media to share the resource directly to the chosen channel. Supported channels are Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and LinkedIn. These options appear only if the file type is supported by that channel. For example, most video files can only be shared to Facebook and Twitter.
As with the Public Link option, extra fields such as presets for image files are available when sharing to social channels.
Once you decide whether to share the Original or Preset version, select the social channel you want. That platform opens with its post page ready.
Embedding Options
Embedding an Image
If your resource is a supported image type, the following embed options appear.
| Embed Source | Embed either the Original file or a Preset (transformations or specific parameters applied to the original). If Preset is selected, an extra field lets you select an existing Preset or add a new one. |
| Embed Display Size | Sets the image display size when it is embedded into the external link or site, useful when the destination has specific requirements. Choose the default (original) size or enter custom dimensions. |
| Alternate Text | Pre-filled with the original file name. It is shown if the image cannot load and helps users with assistive technologies. |
| Embed Code | The code to copy into another source. Click Copy Code to copy your settings, then paste to embed. |
Embedding a Video
When embedding a video file, you have the following options.
| Link Type | Choose Adaptive Streaming to embed a streaming player with extra play options, or Direct to use the browser's HTML5 player. |
| Embed Display Size | Sets the video display size when it is embedded, useful when the destination has specific requirements. Choose the default (original) size or enter custom dimensions. |
| Alternate Text | Pre-filled with the original file name. It is shown if the video cannot load and helps users with assistive technologies. |
| Alignment | The default is None. You can set Left, Right, or Center alignment for the embedded video. |
| Embed Code | The code to copy into another source. Click Copy Code to copy your settings, then paste to embed the video. |
