Multilingual Disclaimer Detection for Content Risk Reviews

Modified on Sat, 18 Jul at 2:08 AM

Overview

Content Risk Reviews (CRR) supports exact-match disclaimer detection across multiple languages, allowing you to monitor compliance of disclaimers in the markets and languages relevant to your business. This article explains how multilingual disclaimer detection works, which languages are supported, and what you need to provide to get set up.

Supported languages

Disclaimer detection is currently available in:

  • English
  • French
  • German
  • Spanish
  • Italian
  • Dutch
  • Japanese

If you operate in a market not listed above, contact your account manager. We are open to discussing support for additional languages.

How it works

Disclaimer detection uses deterministic and hybrid LLM techniques for exact-match logic. The platform checks whether the required disclaimer text appears in your content precisely as configured.

This means the disclaimer text loaded into the platform must exactly match the disclaimer text your organisation uses in its marketing materials. Any variation, a different word order, an abbreviation, or a punctuation difference will result in the disclaimer not being detected correctly, and the content being flagged as non-compliant.

Translation Best Practice

To enable detection in a non-English language, you must supply the translated disclaimer text. IntelligenceBank does not generate or provide translations.

We strongly recommend that all disclaimer translations be produced by a qualified legal translator or reviewed by local legal counsel, and not generated by machine translation tools such as Google Translate or DeepL.

Disclaimers are regulatory language. The precise wording often carries legal weight, and machine translation tools are not designed to meet the accuracy and consistency standards required for compliance copy. A translation that is broadly correct may still fail to reflect the exact phrasing required by local regulators or your legal team.

The consequences of poor translation are twofold:

  1. Detection failure. If the translated disclaimer loaded into the platform does not exactly match the disclaimer your teams are using in the market, the platform will not detect it, even if the meaning is equivalent. Content will be incorrectly flagged as non-compliant.
  2. Regulatory risk. If the disclaimer wording itself is not legally accurate for the relevant jurisdiction, your organisation may be using non-compliant disclaimers without knowing it. The platform can only detect what it is configured to look for. It cannot validate whether your disclaimer meets local regulatory requirements.

How to get started

To enable disclaimer detection in a supported language:

  1. Talk to your account manager about the language(s) you would like to use with CRR, including requests for languages not currently supported.
  2. Provide the finalised disclaimer text to your account manager and to our in-house rules-building team.
  3. Our team will load the text and confirm when detection is active for the relevant language.

Note: If your disclaimer text changes, for example, following a regulatory update, you must notify your account manager promptly so the configured text can be updated. Detection will continue to match against the previous version until the configuration is changed.

Frequently asked questions

Can I load multiple variants of the same disclaimer? Yes. If your disclaimer appears in different approved forms (for example, a short-form and long-form version), both can be configured. Speak to your account manager about how to structure this.

What if our disclaimer changes? You are responsible for notifying us of any changes to your disclaimer text. Updated text must go through the same translation and verification process before being submitted for reconfiguration.

Can you translate our disclaimers for us? No. Translation is the customer's responsibility. We strongly recommend engaging qualified legal translators rather than relying on machine translation tools.

We operate in a language not on the supported list — can you help? Potentially. Contact your account manager to discuss your requirements. We assess additional language requests on a case-by-case basis.
